Financial planners or advisors are salespeople. They are not teachers. Get your education from someone not getting a commission.
I wonder how most people just didn’t get the real message, but it’s simple: the fact is most Financial Planners will just teach how to calculate, to estimate, but they just can’t teach how to behave in different circumstances (scenarios) of the Market — and you know why? Because most of them just never even lived what they are talking about. But, I think the most important thing is to know the difference between a Financial Planner and a Financial Coach. The first one is a Calculator, the second one is Behaviour.
And just because someone is a financial professional or wealthy also doesn’t necessarily make them good financial educators. Where you get your info is important because financial advisors are trained by the financial industry. We need their expertise but their perspective on wealth creation and management is far more valuable than their credentials or size of their bank account.
One of the things I respect about my financial planner is that he admits that he doesn’t know everything and encourages people to get the right kind of financial information so they can gain an understanding to make decisions that are appropriate for their situation.
I had my first business at the age of 7. Made more money than all school teachers who were teaching economics and math. those experiences Taught me how to read, write, and speak properly at the age of 21. Getting educated is necessary. But be very careful who your teachers are. If the resource materials are provided by CRA, Bankers, and Insurance Companies, you may want to consider other sources of teaching as well.
Financial education should be learned from a person or body of people who have successfully done what we want to do and are still doing it. If your financial planer doesn’t have a business that is generating financial wealth energy he is not a financial planner.
